Our process vs. the standard process--there's just no comparison.

Tyson® beef is made fresher, and in as little as 5 days to lock in the natural goodness of a burger vs. 90 days for other suppliers.

Tyson's process--using USDA A704 fresh beef:
  • We start with fresh, refrigerated beef.
  • Within 5 days of harvest, the fresh beef is ground and processed.
  • Within 2 hours our burgers are flame-broiled for a backyard-grill quality.
  • Our burgers are quickly frozen for shipping. NOTE: This is the 1 time our burgers see the freezer.
Standard process--used by other suppliers that use USDA A594 frozen ground beef:
  • Beef is ground and frozen before it's shipped to the processing facility.
  • It is thawed for processing.
  • Beef is reground and refrozen to preserve "freshness."
  • It is sent to another area of the plant where it is thawed for additional processing.
  • Beef is reground before processing.
  • Within 90 days, the beef will be blended and finished.
  • It is frozen one more time and then shipped to schools.
Tyson's unique procurement process results in delicious, juicy products:
ONLY Tyson is currently allowed by the USDA to procure beef directly from the source. This gives you two advantages:
1)  Our beef is substitutable, offering a seamless flow from commodity processing to commercial purchasing (all with the same product codes), so you can maintain nutritional programs, keep consistent meal patterns and preserve reimbursable meal counts.
2)  There's no waiting for the USDA to provide beef; we can procure it ourselves.
